I've tried taking outfit pictures outside of my home and while I have been somewhat successful in it, I'd much rather stick in my comfort zone and take them at home. There's actually a lot of little picture taking areas in my backyard that I haven't used yet. Plus it's already awkward enough taking outfit pictures by myself via a tripod and camera self-timer, (something I willingly do) that I don't need to be startled by strangers and their funny looks. I'll leave that to my family.

Sunday Videos: I Love to Laugh

Sometimes it doesn't take a lot to start making me laugh hysterically and these two videos that I watched last week are good examples of that.

One way to make an LAFMO song a little more bearable and funnier? Make a video with a literal interpretation of the lyrics using MS Paint. Also I didn't know that the group comprised of a Uncle and his nephew. What? Now that's what you call the fun uncle.

When I watched
The Muppets last month, I was practically bawling during "Rainbow Connection." But when I watched this version by season 1 Project Runway alum (and current Project Runway: All-Stars contestant) Austin Scarlett, I couldn't help but laugh. It's so awesomely weird and random and it's like he filmed it in a super fancy video karaoke booth.

When I saw this over at Refinery29, I knew I had to post it here. Zooey is February's Allure cover girl and I love (as described in the video below) the 60's chorus girl meets Natalie Wood in Gypsy and Shirley Maclaine in Sweet Charity. The issue hits newsstands on the 24th.

There will be times at work where you can't access your e-mails or certain programs, or you computer decides to crash as you are compiling reports that are due in a hour. So what do you do? Call the IT department of course. The IT department is an integral part of any company and we depend on them so much when technology betrays us. But as employees we tend to take them for granted. Probably because they might be 1,000 miles away at a call center or tucked away in the bowels of the basement of a shiny and massive corporate office. Such is the case behind the those who run the IT department in the British comedy series, The IT Crowd.

Created by Graham Linehan, (Father Ted, Black Books) the show centers around the three IT department employees in the London offices of Reynholm Industries; workshy Roy (Chris O'Dowd) who tends be apathetic about his job. His greeting when he answers the phone is "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" Maurice Moss (Richard Ayoade) who's an IT genius genius but can sometimes be socially inept, and their department "relationship manager" Jen Barber (Katherine Parkinson) who got the job without having any IT knowledge. Add to the mix their strange boss Denholm Reynholm (Christopher Morris) and his sexually inappropriate son, Douglas (Matt Berry) who shows up in season 2.

It takes a couple of episodes to find its pace, but once it does it's really fun to watch. In some ways it reminds me of another geek centric show I like, The Guild. Both involve a group of people that form unlikely friendships over that they do, (as in this case work in The IT Crowd and a World of Warcraft type game on The Guild.) while navigating through awkward situations. Although unlike on The Guild, the social situations in The IT Crowd always end up badly. Always.

Interesting fact. There was a US adaption of The IT Crowd developed for NBC which was going to have a midseason debut during the 2007-2008 TV season. Richard Ayoade reprised his role as Moss with Joel McHale as Roy and Jessica St. Clair as Jen. The show ended up being scrapped and the pilot never aired. I found a clip on youtube that compares both versions:

However this isn't the last time that Ayoade and McHale worked together. Ayoade directed the season 2 Community episode, "Critical Film Studies" which McHale stars as Jeff Winger.

All four seasons of The IT Crowd is streaming on Netflix right now, as with most British shows, there are only 6 episodes in a season. It's the perfect show to watch in a weekend, or heck even in a day.

First outfit post of the year! Nothing spectacular, but it sure is comfy. The weather has been really nice lately, in the 70's and 80's. It almost doesn't feel like winter. But it's supposed to rain this weekend, so there will be more layers on the way.

I used my curling wand today to create some beachy waves. I've been using my regular curling iron since I got my haircut, but I like using the wand much better. The waves don't weigh my hair down as much since my curls are not all on the bottom. Plus its give my hair instant volume and who doesn't like that?
I'm also looking for new shampoo and conditioner. I've been using Herbal Essences for a while now, but it's not as effective as it used to be and I actually need something that is sulfate free and more gentle on my hair. Does anyone have good suggestions for sulfate free/ shampoo/conditioners? I've also heard about the no washing your hair methods, but I'm not ready to take that step yet.

Confession. I'm tired of the designer collaborations. What was once an neat and exciting way to bring high fashion to the masses, has grown to where a majority of the people buying it are just trying to sell it on ebay. Which was the case with the Missioni for Target line. Would you really shell out $31,000 for a pair of $34.99 rain boots? I certainly wasn't going to. I also have to say the recent Versace for H&M collection wasn't enticing at all. They all looked like clothes I would wear to a Decade of the Supermodels costume party.

I was about to write off designer collaborations completely when I saw the Jason Wu for Target look book on Lucky this morning and I have to say I love the collection. It's the first one I'll been excited to see in person in a long time. I love how the clothes in the collection aren't carbon copies of his runway designs, but you can see his ladylike aesthetics in each piece.

The collection hits stores on February 5th and everything is under $60. If there's only one thing I get, it would be the floral blue purse. Here's hoping that it looks just as good in person as it does in these photos.

Different But The Same

What I did on New Years Eve. Made a Ginger TARDIS, like a boss. :P

So I don't blog for a week and look what happens, my blog decides to regenerate! I kid, I kid. It
just got a little face-lift thanks to Nikki of Design Coyote. The header drawing I had commissioned by Meg of Bow Ties are Cool last year. My blog looks so pretty now. I also thought that my side tabs needed a little nip-tuck too, so I changed them a little bit although I think I need to make them a little bit smaller.

Anywhoo, I know every blog that I've been reading is writing about where their blogs were headed and I'm no different. I've spent some time thinking about what direction I wanted my blog to go. When I first started this blog it was basically something to post my fashion inspirations, but then I added outfit posts, shows I love, and personal antidotes here and there. I've tried having weekly features on my blog. But I have to say it's a lot of work coming up with content and having it ready each week and as much as I love doing my Monday Style Inspirations and Whovian Wednesdays posts, the only weekly feature I'll be keeping is Sunday Videos.

I also always felt like my blog was a grab bag of whatever I wanted to post about and I wondered if I should buckle down to one topic. Personal style or pop culture? But honestly I don't think I can. These two things are such a part of who I am, that I couldn't pick one or the other. What I'm trying to say is that my blog content is going to be the same, but better. I want to post more of my pop culture ramblings, but I always felt like my writing wasn't effective enough. Seriously, I have an post on The I.T. Crowd sitting in my draft box for the last 6 months. But aren't we all our own worst critics? So I'm just going to ignore the critical voices in my head, and start writing.

Which brings me to my goals for the new year. I know I have my 30 before 30, but I ended up taking it down because I know I'm not going to get everything done in five months. Eventually I'll be able to cross everything off that list. So for now, here are the six goals I have for this year:

Read two books a month.
Exercise at least three times a week.
Start sewing again and learn how to knit.
Work on my Etsy store on regular basis.
Don't be so tied down to technology.
Stop hesitating and just do it. (Probably the most important one! I know this one seems to negate against the first four goals, but it's something I need to do in all aspects in my life. I spend so much time over thinking things. There times where I wanted to do something and I just did it. Yeah sometimes the results might not be to my liking, but I did learn from it. So need to think in this mindset from now on.)

I'm looking at 2012 with the glass half-full. I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way or that it even overflows because then that would be great.

Looky here, last outfit post of 2011! Is it strange for me to say that I was looking forward to wearing jeans and a t-shirt today? But of course I had to spiffy it up with my trusty wool blazer and these wedges. After months of searching, I finally found the perfect tomato red shoes from Payless. They look exactly like the black wedges I have, but just a wee bit taller.

Oh, and here is another Doctor Who inspired tee. This time it's Winnie the Pooh dressed up as the Fourth Doctor. How cute is that?

I'm going to celebrate the upcoming new year by baking and catching up on my shows over on Netflix. More low-key than fancy-schmancy.

Simply Having A Wonderful Christmastime

I think that preparing for the holiday season is similar to preparing for a big test. Better to work in small chunks instead of trying to pull consecutive all-nighters. I was not well prepared and did the latter only to crash and burn. I didn't get to finish everything I wanted to accomplish. One being my Christmas dress, which was a disappointing because I really wanted to get it done before Sunday. But I'm still working on it and I'll have it done for New Year's. I'm going to wear it even if I stay home gosh darn-it.

During our Christmas festivities, one of the sweetest things happened, my sister got engaged! Her boyfriend proposed in-front of our family and his and it was just so sweet and heartwarming that there wasn't a dry eye in the house, myself included. Most of our family knew about it, and the fact that we pulled it off without her noticing at all was nothing short of amazing.

As for the rest of the day, we spend it eating, watching the Lakers lose their lead from the Bulls, my brother taking our yearly family group photo with now even more extended family, and playing some trivia games. All I have to say about the games is that I rock when it comes to my aunts music trivia one. I was the team spokesperson for my group, but there were times I didn't need any help figuring out the songs. I would totally blurt out the name of the song after a couple of notes were played.

However I need to work on my 60's and 70's music because we lost in the group tie breaker because one of the other teams got the correct answer first. Plus there were times where I knew the song, but I could not think of the title. Ugh, that's the worst. Next year, I'm probably going to be my own team.

Finally, the older cousins in our family have their own gift exchange and this year I got the Momofuku Milk Bar Dessert Book.

It's chock-full of recipes from the famed NYC Bakery, which I really want to go to the next time I visit New York. But for now, I can make some of Christina Tosi's mouthwatering desserts at home. This book needs it's own post.

All Dogs Go To Heaven

A couple of days ago, one of our dogs Choco escaped from our house and later that night my dad found him lying on the side of a busy street next to where we live. He got hit by a car. Luckily he was still breathing and we were all hoping that it would just be broken bones or even something where he would be able function with one of those doggy wheelchairs.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case. As my dad and brother went to take Choco to the vet, my mom and I went to do some last minute Christmas errands. When we go home, we got the bad news. The vet said his injuries were so severe that he need to be put to sleep. The bottom part of him was paralyzed and something he would probably never recover from.

I know I don't talk about the dogs in our family too much, but you might have seen them when they would photo-bomb some of my outfit pics. They are Australian Shepherds and while they can be a handful, they are always waiting for you in excitement. There are still four dogs in our family, but it's always sad to see one go.

A Not So Hairy Situation

I started off the year getting bangs that I ultimately didn't like the second time around. So after weeks of thinking of going for another hair shake-up, I finally decided to go short again. But unlike the last time I cut it this short or got bangs, I'm not going to regret it after a week. I love the way it turned out and my hair feels so much better without the extra 2-3 inches. I might have to spend a little more time styling it, but it's still long enough that I can put it up.

Wore this outfit to work yesterday and I had a customer compliment on it. She liked the way I put it together which was nice to hear because I spent 30 minutes going through all my jackets and cardigans trying to figure out what would work with this dress. This was best option even if I wasn't 100% sold on it at the time. Sometimes it take a compliment to make you not so self-conscious about your outfit choices.

I can't believe that next week is Christmas! There's still some cards to mail out, presents to buy/make, a dress to be made*, and a TARDIS to be built (more on that later this week). So for my last Sunday Videos for the year, (whoa!) here are clips of some of my favorite holiday themed episodes.

How can I not start without mentioning A Charlie Brown Christmas? A television staple since 1965, this classic specials needs to be watched every year.

Ok, who didn't have a crush on Seth Cohen during The O.C.'s heyday? He brought Chrismukkah into TV pop culture spectrum and I always watch the episodes for some early '00 nostalgia.

I'm so disappointed that Community is on a long hiatus right now. It's hands down one of the best shows on TV right now. Amazing cast and Dan Harmon is a genius. I do hope Community gets a season 4 just so we can have one more Christmas Episode.

This month's Everybody, Everywear is sequins and sparkles, something I can never get enough of. Who doesn't like a little sparkle in their wardrobe? I featured this top on my Fall Trends post and it was an item I bought a long time ago, but never wore. So what a better time than today to pull it out of the closet. I ended up pairing it with the cardigan not only because it tones down the sequins a bit, but there's sequins in the armpit area and it just makes a lot of noise when I move my arms. Probably not the best idea to put sequins there.

I will also say that taking these outfit pictures yesterday took longer than I thought. Not only was it sprinkling outside, but it was getting dark, and my camera battery was dying on me, so the above two photos were the only ones that looked decent. The rest of them looked like this...

I wasn't even moving when I took these. I'm thinking the low battery combined with taking continuous shots caused a slow shutter speed. Hence these pictures. Although, don't they look kind of artsy? Eh, maybe not.

Style Inspirations: An American Girl Holiday

It's been a while since I did a Style Inspirations post and what a better time to do it than during the holiday season.

Having an American Girl doll was one of the things I wanted so much growing up. I remember one of my friends bringing her Felicity doll for show and tell in elementary school and just wanting to play with it. But the thing about the dolls was that they were so darn expensive and that didn't even include her clothes, furniture, and accessories. So instead, I would spend days pouring over the American Girls catalog writing wish lists (basically the entire catalog) and reading all the books.

Unless you love listening to Christmas music 24/7, you'll be listening to a majority of it at work (especially retail) or out shopping.

Personally I don't mind Christmas music, but when my work has the same 50 songs on rotation, with multiple versions of certain songs no less, I just want to crawl under a table and rock myself until it's over. Ok, that's exaggerating it a bit, but I have learned to tune them out.

When you look at this, you might think it's modern artwork by a up-and-coming artist. But what if I told you it was actually the frames from all seven Harry Potter films compressed? This comes from Movie Barcode and while the concept is not new, it's still a cool effect to see how the color progresses in a film or even see the various shades of a favorite directors color (such as Alfonso Cuarón).

With two weeks before Christmas, I have this slightly crazy plan that where I want to sew my dress I'll be wearing on the 25th. I have some sewing patterns and cloth just hanging out in my room and that just calling to be used. Plus I remember my mom sewing me and my sister's Christmas outfits when we were little, so it'll be nice to start that up again.

The thing is, there are three dresses that I want to sew, but I can't seem to pick one. So this is where you come in. I'll be doing a poll on where you get to pick which dress I will sew and I'll document the progress on the blog.

When I bought this sweater a year ago, I knew that it would work with this skirt that I bought the previous year. However, I didn't wear it until yesterday when I was inspired by a fascinator I bought last week from Hive and Honey. So it took two years for this outfit to come together. That's an awfully long time to come up with one don't you think?

The fascinator in question is this cat one. I have another one of her designs and when I saw this one, I had to get it. This just might be the start of my cat paraphernalia. You see, it all starts off with the hair accessory and ends with a closet full of cat sweaters, like this.

I've been on the look out for roll-up capris for a while and I found these when I was at Old Navy last week. They were having one of those pre-black Friday sales where their adult clearance was an extra 50% off. I almost passed these up because I thought they would look like I was getting ready to audtion for M.C. Hammers new show. But at $2.50 after the 50% off, the least I can do is try them on and if I didn't like them, put it back on the rack.

Surprisingly they worked out. They were tapered enough where I didn't have the urge to do the running man in them, but not so much where my calves felt like they were in sausage casings. (Large calves and wide feet are the bane to my existence.) Plus it's made out of this rayon material which is really comfy and has a elastic waist, good if you're going to eat a big meal. I would never wear full on silk pajama pants in public, but these come real close.

Hello there! How was everyone's Thanksgiving? Mine was really good given the fact that I didn't have to work today for the first time in the past two years and I'll post more about it tomorrow.

But here's an outfit I wore on Wed. when I had to run some quick errands. Now that colder weather has arrived, once again I'm embracing pants more often now. Sometimes, you just need something a little more thicker than tights.

I call this outfit a little menagerie because I paired this giraffe print top with some bird earrings.

I would have taken it one step further with my panther bracelet. Unfortunately, it clashed with the rest of my outfit. I guess it be another borrowed from the zoo outfit to think out. Hmmm... exactly how many different types of animals can I wear in one outfit. Something to definitely think about.

Well, it's time to sleep off the remnants of my Thanksgiving dinner and gain some energy before work. It's going to be a jungle out there today. See what I did there? Har har.

I didn’t even know what Doctor Who was until probably year ago when I would casually hear it from relatives and on the Nerdist podcast. I remember starting to watch season one in the beginning of the year, but after watching three episodes I stopped and kept it on the back burner. It wasn’t until after Comic-Con that I plopped down in front of my computer and ended up watching it streaming Netflix and I was instantly hooked. I ended up watching up to the 1st half of season 6 in two weeks. I fell even further down the Doctor Who rabbit hole when I rediscovered Tumblr and found people that were just as obsessed with the show as me*.

So happy birthday Doctor Who. When you need a new companion, I'll be all packed up and ready for anything. Even if it is going to the planet of the hats.

I bought this jacket 3 years ago but never wore it because I didn't know what to pair it with back then. I thought it would be too fancy to wear everyday. This was before I realized that you can mix dressier items with more casual everyday wear.

So this weekend, I finally pulled this out from my closet and wore it to work. It's actually really comfortable to wear and I'm already thinking of other ways to wear it. Have to make sure I air it out between wearings since it's dry clean only. Something I didn't know until I actually read the wash and care instructions last night. Doh.

Peanut Butter Chews

The holiday season is when everyone's baking guns come out. At work potlucks, everyone brings a dessert and I'm no different. While I like trying to bake new things, such as attempting to bake a pie this season, for the most part I like to stick to my tried and true recipes. Peanut Butter Chews is one of them. I wish take credit for this peanut butter goodness, but it came from a recipe book that one of my relatives gave to my family twenty years ago. I remember baking this the first time and bringing them to work and they were an instant hit that I would bake them all the time and eventually gave my co-workers the recipe. Now you can try the recipe yourself.

Peanut Butter Chews

Recipe by Stacie H. from the Sony San Diego Family Cookbook

Ingredients

2 cups white sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2/3 cups margarine (I use butter when I make it)
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups coconut (or 1 cup oatmeal)
1 cup of milk chocolate chips (optional)

Directions

Combine sugars, peanut butter, margarine (or butter), vanilla, and eggs in large mixing bowl and cream.

Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and coconut together. For my twist in the recipe, I also add 1 cup of milk chocolate chips.

Add 1/2 to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly. Add the rest and mix.

Spread in greased oblong pan and about 1/2 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 20 to 30 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm. Spread with thin powdered sugar frosting or leave plain.

There you have it, Peanut Butter Chews. They are great hot from the oven but taste even better the next day. Make sure you put it in a sealed contained so it doesn't get stale. The chews pair well with a cold glass of milk.

When I wore this over the weekend and before I could take a pictures it started raining, hence the umbrella. With the cooler weather, it's starting to feel more like fall. Which only means more baking, flannels, and the return of my favorite drink at Starbucks, the Caramel Brulée Latte. Yum!

In July during Comic-Con I went with my brother to go see Childish Gambino over at the HOB San Diego which I enjoyed a lot. Childish Gambino is the rap moniker of Donald Glover (Troy on Community) and this week he puts out his first album under a record label Camp.

Right now NPR is streaming the album and if you are into rap it's definitely worth a listen. Be warned it is NSFW and as NPR suggests, have Wikipedia and the Urban Dictionary in separate tabs just in case you need to figure out the references in his raps.

This month's Everybody, Everywear is colored tights. A few years ago I wouldn't have the courage to wear them and would just stick to classic black. But now I'm embracing wearing them in all the colors. LOL. Not only do they incorporate more color to an outfit, but they are must for those like me who still want to wear skirts and dresses without turning our legs into Popsicles. I decided to break out one of the boldest colors I own, fuchsia. I was originally going to wear a oatmeal cardigan, but then I would have had three different shades of brown on me. Pairing it instead with a cardigan of the same color as the tights helped tie the outfit together.

I also wanted to call this post, "and a wild outfit post appeared!" because it's been two weeks since my last outfit post (not including my Halloween costume). But I'll start having more frequent outfit posts now that I'm working again which I'm so excited for. The ratio between wearing nice clothes and my pj's will be shifting now.

Style Inspirations: Color Me Mine

Every spring and fall season, Pantone puts out their Fashion Color Report. Basically it's the colors that will be most popular and were featured in various designer collections during fashion week.

This years theme for the women's color report is called Sensible and Spirited:

Taking cues from the great masters, sepia tones of old Hollywood, Chinese opera, cityscapes and countryside, designers are paying close attention to texture, contrast and color for fall 2011 – pairing menswear with feminine twists, warm prints with cool metals, incorporating both old and new influences, and creating an intriguing balance between colors.

Some of the colors might scream spring to you, but they are a great way to add color to the black, greys, and other various neutral colors that is worn during the fall/winter season. They bring in some much needed color during those long winter days.

Here are some outfits I created, using some of the fashion colors as inspiration.

After many hours and a some revisions, here is what I wore for Halloween, my 50's inspired TARDIS costume. The skirt wasn't too hard to make besides having to sew the zipper which I'm still a novice at, but it was everything else that took a lot of time. The petticoat was the most time consuming, having to sew the rows and rows of tulle, but I like it much better than having to buy one.

Then it came to how I was going to decorate the skirt. At first I wanted it to be like the TARDIS with panels on the front of the skirt. Instead, I decided to make a mimic the poodle appliques that usually are on a skirt like this. I made a TARDIS applique and had eleven stars following it. The stars represent the eleven Doctors.

I tried making two different type of light toppers for my head, but I wasn't feeling them. So I made some flowers out of the leftover felt, covered it with glitter, and yellow gems on the center part. The final thing was this purse made to look like the Police sign. I took a plain structured bag and covered it with felt and wrapped the handles with ribbon. I then took some white cloth to write out the sign.

Overall I really like the way it turned out and now I have a costume I can wear to conventions. I'm also thinking of sewing up another skirt, perhaps a Guild version.

I also wanted to mention that I am the new Admin for the Tumblr site Matt Smith in Places He Shouldn't Be. It's the same as the David Tennant site, but with the 11th Doctor. The site has changed a lot of hands since it was created last month, I'm their third Admin, but I'll be there for the long haul. So follow me there and you can always submit things to the site.

Whovian Wednesdays: The Ballad of Russell and Julie

On Sunday, I posted the cast and crew of Doctor Who singing along to The Proclaimers "500 Miles." The video was part of a DVD that the crew got at the end of David Tennant's run as the Doctor. Also included in that DVD was a tribute to Executive Producer and Writer Russell T. Davies and Executive Producer Julie Gardner who were also leaving the series.

Performed by David Tennant, Catherine Tate, and John Barrowman, their version is a take off of British Comedian Victoria Wood's "Let's Do It" which is a cheeky piano tune about a couple wanting to, how can I put this lightly, getting it on.

I thought I couldn't like The Proclaimer's "500 Miles" even more because of How I Met Your Mother. Then I saw this...

How can this not make you smile or uncontrollably laugh? I know I did...a lot It was filmed during the production of the Doctor Who "End of Time" episodes and it was probably David Tennant's idea since he's such a huge fan of them. But once this video hit on Tumblr, gifs were made and an appreciation for a Welsh caterer name Sue followed. For this, I salute him.

Quick and Easy Pumpkin Cupcakes

One thing that immediately reminds me of fall is pumpkins. I love it pie, latte, and even in ice cream. So when I came across this pumpkin cupcake recipe on Pinterest, I immediately had to try it. The cool thing about this recipe is that it doesn't use any oil or eggs. It's just cake mix and pumpkin puree.

Recipe adapted from Big Red Kitchen.

Ingredients:

1 box of yellow cake mix
1lb can pumpkin puree
1 1/2 tsp of nutmeg
2 tsp of cinnamon
2 tsp of vanilla extract

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees F if you are using a non-stick/dark baking pan. Pre-heat to 350 degrees F for a glass/shiny baking pan.
Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix.
Bake for 30 minutes.

Once the cupcakes are cooled you can either sprinkle powederd sugar over them or frost them with some cream cheese frosting. I used this frosting recipe from Paula Deen, but I cut the powdered sugar to 2 cups because it made it less sweet.

There you have it, some wonderful pumpkin cupcakes that you can make during the fall season.

With social media it only takes one tweet or post to get a fandom into a tizzy. Case in point, about an hour ago Nathan Fillion tweeted this:

From what I read on the interwebs, it's already been filmed, during Whedon's two week break from filming The Avengers and it looks like it might be a web-series, but we know until it comes out. If it's going to be web based, it'll be his first since Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog.

Much Ado About Nothing centers around Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero. Benedick and Beatrice, who may have had a past relationship, bicker with each other constantly proclaiming how they will never marry. On the opposite side of the spectrum, Claudio and Hero are blissfully in love with each other with plans to marry. It's through trickery that Benedick and Beatrice declare their love for each other and what causes Claudio to leave Hero at the altar. Who would cause such trickery, the evil Don John of course. It's also one of the first forms of romantic-comedy.

This will be the third version of Much Ado out this year. During the summer there two productions in London. The first one was at Shakespeare's Globe that starred Eve Best (Wallis Simpson in A Kings Speech) as Beatrice and Charles Edwards as Benedick, while the second starred Catherine Tate and David Tennant (they really like to work together) as Beatrice and Benedick in 1980's Gibraltar.

Also in 2005, there was BBC TV production called ShakespeaRe-Told, where his plays received a modern retelling. This version was set in a local news station and starred Damien Lewis (Homeland) and Sarah Parish (Merlin). It also stars Billie Piper (Doctor Who) as Hero (I swear, there will be point where I reference Doctor Who in every post I write about).

I don't know to what extent the play is going to be adapted to, but this might be the first time that no one dies in a Joss Whedon project. Hence the title of this post.

But you never know...

Edit: A press release for this project has been released and it's going to be completed early spring an will be released through the festival circuit, "because it is fancy." Plus there's an article about it on Entertainment Weekly's site which included these production stills.

Vampires get back in your coffins and zombies start making the long shuffle towards the nearest exit because Hollywood has a new genre that they will squeeze every bit out of. Fairy tales. With two new fairy tale shows, Once Upon a Time and Grimm, premiering this week and two Snow White movies currently in production, they are the next go to genre to grace our screens.

Although it's not the first time because I remember watching the Fractured Fairy Tales segments during The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, Faerie Tale Theater, and of course the countless Disney animated films.

I think one reason why fairy tales have always been popular is because we associate them with happy endings. Yes there's conflict, but the girl always gets her prince and live in a great big shiny castle. But what happens once the happily ever after is long gone? That's the topic at hand with Steven Sondheim's 1988 Broadway musical, Into the Woods. Where some of the most classic Grimm's fairy tales intertwine with each other with interesting twists.

I remember first hearing about it in high school when it was our spring musical. It was originally supposed to be Grease, but the drama teacher didn't think it was appropriate for us to perform. That I found funny because Into the Woods has an affair, murder/death, and the cutting off one's heel in order to fit into a glass slipper. There was a Broadway revival in 2002, but the original cast will always be my favorite. I highly recommend giving it a viewing. In fact it's currently streaming on Netflix and once you watch it, you'll start humming along to the songs.

1. Do you have plans for Halloween? What will you dress up as thisyear?

I don't have any concrete plans for Halloween yet, but I'm making a costume. I'm going to be the TARDIS from Doctor Who but in a 50's era style. I've been working on it for the past two weeks and I hope to have it finished this weekend.

2. Where do you go for costume and makeup inspiration?

I enjoy browsing through Cosplay.com and Photo galleries from the various conventions. There is a wealth of costume inspiration these sites. I also love Kelldar's site. She makes all her costumes and they are all amazing.

3. What was the best costume you've ever donned?

When my dad was stationed in Spain, he sent over a flamenco dress. I couldn't find my photo album that had it, so I'll use this one instead.

Oh look, another geeky tee. This time it's a Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog one by Joebot and is a nice companion to the Serenity tee also by him, that I got a few months ago. Eventually I will do a post on all my geeky tees because I have discovered so many quality ones.

I've probably said it before, but if you haven't watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog yet, you should. After first watching it a couple years ago, it has become one of my favorite musicals. Right up there on the ranks of West Side Story or 42nd Street. Last year I went to Los Angeles to a charity screening of it and it's an annual event that's being held again this weekend. I wish I could go,(and in costume no less) but I can't this year. But if you can, do it! It was a lot of fun and there's usually a special guest or two there.

Full disclosure, I did not wear this today. I just took these outfit pictures and soon after changed back into my shirt and shorts. Despite being the middle of October, it was 92 degrees today. So unlike the rest of the country, fall isn't making its way to Southern California. But if was 20 degrees cooler this would be one of my fall uniforms; skirt or dress, comfy sweater, and boots. The other one is jeans tucked into boots with a top and cardigan/blazer. Seriously I just want to start wearing my boots again!

Another thing is that not only has it been four years since I started this blog, but this is my 500th post! When I first discovered fashion and style blogs, I was completely fascinated by them and would spend hours pouring over them. Some of the blogs that I first started reading; Liebemarlene, Ringo! Have a Banana, and Sally Jane Vintage, I still read today and the first post I ever wrote was on Zooey Deschanel. So while some things never change, other things have.

In the past four years, I have discovered new things that I now fawn over immensely on this blog, tapped further into my nerdiness, finally visited NYC, had my heart broken but have become a little more wiser because of it, and rediscovered hobbies I used to love to when I was younger. Yes there's a certain amount of narcissism that comes with blogging, since I do post outfits and I sometimes I do get down on myself for not being as popular as other bloggers. But I wouldn't change it for anything. This is just a little facet of my life where I get to share my interests and hopefully others will be drawn into it. On that note, I have made some blogger friends that I hope to one day meet in real life. It's great how something like blogging and other social media outlets can connect you to people who share the same interests. It just shows that sometimes the world isn't as big as you think it is.

Finally, not to get too sappy, but I want to thank everyone that has read my blog. I really appreciate those who take the time follow and read my ramblings. I hope to continue this blog with my regular features such as Sunday Videos and Style Inspiration along with my outfit posts and pop culture ramblings. Whovian Wednesdays: Some Other Works by Davies and Moffat

Now that season six of Doctor Who is over and after the Christmas special, we won't get to see him flying around space and time in his TARDIS until 2012/2013, you're probably wondering what you should watch to tide yourself over. One of two Doctor Who spinoffs (the other is The Sarah Jane Adventures) created by Davies, Torchwood centers around Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and his team and their daily battle against extraterrestrial and supernatural threats. Set in the Cardiff, Wales branch of the Torchwood Institutes (set up during season two of Doctor Who), Jack is the leader of the group that also includes, Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles), Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd), Toshiko "Tosh" Sato (Naoko Mori), and Owen Harper (Burn Gorman). I like to call Torchwood "Doctor Who after dark" because not only is it a lot more violent, but there's also a lot more sexy times. Fun fact: Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who and was used as a way to disguise the preview tapes when they made the trip from Cardiff to London.

Sherlock

The Doctor isn't the only clever man Steven Moffat writes about. There's also Sherlock Holmes in this new adaptation. Instead of solving crimes in late 19th century London, Sherlock (Benedict Crumberbatch) is now solving them in modern day London with his sidekick Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman). The writing and acting is just so good that the most disappointing part is that only three episodes were made. I thought having to wait a year for new Doctor Who episodes would be tough, it'll be almost two years until new Sherlock episodes premiere and with such a cliffhanger ending in the third episode, I just want it to come back now.

For this month's Everybody, Everywear it was all about the D.I.Y. and mine happens to be my necklace, one of the many things I have made over the summer. My whole room is one big craft corner right now with the current project being my Halloween costume. It's turning out really good so far, so I can't wait to get finished and show it to everyone.

It's also the first time in a week that I wore something that wasn't an t-shirt and pj shorts. I tried doing the dress nice even if you are staying at home thing but in reality, I would much rather stay in my pjs all day than don fancier things. Especially if I'm going to be at home all day. Let's just hope I'll something secured up during the holiday season where I don't look like I've been wearing the same geeky tee for the past 4 days.

Style Inspiration: Jane Eyre

Last week I finally watched Jane Eyre and I liked it so much I ended up watching it twice in a row. It's such a moody and romantic film and I thought Mia Wshikowska and Michael Fassbender were fantastic as Jane and Mr. Rochester. For today's style inspiration I wanted to translate some of Jane's 19th century dress to today, which is very easy to do. With small flower prints, plaid, lace-up boots and even a cape, you can channel your inner Jane Eyre without having to wear a hoop skirt and bonnet.

Fifty years ago on October 5, one of the most iconic films debut on the silver screen, Breakfast at Tiffany's starring one of the most iconic actresses, Audrey Hepburn. I still remember watching it in my film class in high school and instantly being mesmerized by it.

It's a movie that I've probably watched 20+ times since. Not only did I dress up as Holly Golightly for one Halloween, when I made my first trip to NYC, I spent an entire day looking for her apartment in the film, which I did find on a quiet street in upper Manhattan.

Breakfast at Tiffany's one of those movies that captures 60's Manhattan so beautifully.

Style Inspirations: Picnic at Hanging Rock

When it comes to scary movies, I like those that have a physiological, suspenseful, and mysterious bent. The ones where it's more of an unseen force or apparition rather than someone with a mask wielding a knife that the characters need to fend off. I was more freaked out by The Grudge than Scream. One movie that gave me the creeps after I watched it is the 1975 Peter Weir film, Picnic at Hanging Rock.

A summary about the film:

Three students and a school teacher disappear on an excursion to Hanging Rock, in Victoria, Australia on Valentine's Day, 1900. Widely (and incorrectly) regarded as being based on a true story, the movie follows those that disappeared, and those that stayed behind, but it delights in the asking of questions, not the answering of them. - IMDB

It might not be your typical scary movie, it's unfolds at a much slower pace, but it does make you think twice about hiking up rocky terrain in the Australian heat. Of course another thing I liked was the costuming in the film. Although it is set in the 1900s, there is a slight 70s influence since brands like Gunne Sax and Young Edwardian were popular at the time. Styles like this are still influential and you can see it in brands like Rodarte, Charles Anastase, or Lover. The outfits I picked give a nod to the costuming in the film but while still being modern to wear in real life.

Sunday Videos: Love and Heartache

I didn't know that the three videos I was going to post today had a little theme going on, love and the heartache it can bring if it doesn't work out. Those are two universal truths that everyone can relate to.

I like the Benjamin Button narrative about a couple in the video for one of Death Cab's not really depressing songs. Actually the whole album isn't entirely sad at all. I think it's due to Ben marrying Zooey and they are now the ultimate hipster couple. :P

A cute and poppy song about not so fun topic, getting over someone after a breakup. I love how Sara Bareilles put a 50's doo-wop spin to this song. Plus the video is really fun to watch and it was directed by Jonah Hill.

Of course I leave the most depressing video for last. I seriously love how Adele brings so much emotions to her songs that you can almost feel her pain as you listen to it. Also fun fact: she co-wrote this song with Dan Wilson, who used to be the lead singer/songwriter of one of my favorite late 90's bands Semisonic.

This weeks Visual Friend Friday is being hosted by Shelly of GS Lillian and it's about dressing in your favorite decades and I went with the 50's. I added the 50's influence with a fuller skirted dress and beaded cardigan (two staples of that decade), but still kept it modern with length. I also wore these pearl and gold button earrings from Ruban Cassette that I won from Virginie's Cinema's giveaway. Based out of Québec, designer Elisabeth Simard creates her earrings out of vintage buttons. I don't have that many button earrings, so these two are great additions to my earring collection.

I also got my haircut yesterday. Only took an inch and a half off, but not only does my hair feel 10x lighter, but I've finally gotten rid of the bad dye job I did two years ago when I tried to dye it a reddish-brown. Never a good idea to lighten you hair after you dyed it jet black two months earlier.

Whovian Wednesdays: DIY TARDIS Bag

Since I've been writing about Doctor Who a lot lately, I thought I should make it a weekly column for all things Whovian. It's also a way to limit how much I talk about it here, so you dear readers don't sick of me writing about it. :P

For my first Whovian Wednesday post I want to show off a project I've been working on for the past week, my TARDIS totebag. I'm extremely happy with the way the bag turned out because on my first attempt I didn't do the proper measurements for the front piece and it looked like crap. So for my second attempt, I spent more time mapping out how I was going to recreate the front of the bag and it came out much better. There are still some things I want to improve for the next time I make one, but with doing any first time project, there's always crafting lessons to be learned. I plan on making another bag to either put in my shop or as a giveaway. Haven't decided yet.

When Fandoms Collide

Not only does it have it's own page on TV Tropes, but there's also fan-fic and a blog called Inspector Spacetime Confessions, where people submit their thoughts about the "show."

Sunday was the first day I broke out my boots which might have not been the best idea because later on it got really warm. I know talking about the weather is the most boring topic to blog about, but I'm seriously looking forward to cooler weather and I'm tired of this never ending heat. Right now it's 97 degrees. So not fall weather. This outfit is the total opposite of my last outfit post. Channeling some 90's grunge/hipster with this one. I wish I wore something like this in middle school instead of some of the unfortunate outfit choices I made back then. I remember spending a good part of 7th grade wearing baggy jeans, flannel and boots. Not really that flattering.

Anyhoo, I finally finished some sewing projects with one of them I'm extremely proud of. I'm catching up on my reading by trying to spend at least 30 minutes reading and away from the computer, which can be such a time waster (I have a slight Tumblr addiction). I'll be done with Bossypants and will start reading The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy next. Also have some other things to post about, just have to make sure procrastination and laziness doesn't get a hold of me.

Karen Gillan currently plays the 11th Doctor's companion in Doctor Who and while her on-screen style is filled with plaid button-ups and denim mini-skirts, her off-screen style is the opposite of that. I love her vintage feminine style. Plus she has the most beautiful red hair that makes me want to be a ginger, even for a day. There are pieces in our closet that we would love to wear, but for whatever reason they never seem to look right on us. The first thing we might have in mind is to chuck it or keep in buried in our closet to never see the light of day. But sometimes, the piece just needs a little nip and a tuck in order for it to be wearable again.

Much like the case with the dress turn skirt in the last post, I made some quick alterations to turn this over sized dress that I found hidden in the racks at my local Goodwill....

To this...

I basically took the sleeves off, took about an inch from the sides and hemmed it to knee-length. Although I'm thinking of making it an inch shorter. I have a similar dress like this but in a different pattern, so I'm thinking they were hand made. They were also well worn because I found some parts of the dress that looked like it was repaired.

I paired the dress with a flower fascinator I purchased from Hive & Honey. You should check out Kaelah's shop. There are so many cute hair accessorizes there.

So this happened on the season premiere of Community tonight...

And I totally had a fan girl moment. A great Doctor Who spoof. I'm just surprised Abed being the TV/Movie savant, hadn't found out about Inspector Spacetime earlier.

There was also a Dowtown Abbey/Cougar Town spoof...

Community is one of my favorite shows and if you haven't watched it yet, you need to add it to your TV list.

It may be the middle of September, but it still feels like August. I'm just ready for fall or cooler weather in general. My skirt was originally a dress but the top was not fitting right at all. I was about to put this in my give away pile when thought why not make change it to a skirt. It already had a elastic waistband so all I needed was a seam ripper and some sewing and now I have new skirt to wear. This little project is preparing me for this weeks visual Friend Friday where we showcase a reworked item, for I have a dress I've been wanting to alter for a while. Gotta get that started ASAP!

In the opposite end of the spectrum of the color and flourishes of Rodarte's spring collection is Francisco Costa's Calvin Klein spring offerings.

When it comes to clothing, I'm not a minimalist. I like all the flourishes and embellishments that is a part of a garment and I have more prints than solids in my closet. But I just loved the simplicity of this collection because the clothes speak for themselves. I also love how the clothes skim the body instead of binding it like the ubiquitous bandage dresses. It's sexy without being overt. Sexy minimalist is what I would call it.

Style Inspirations: Greek Gods and Warrior Princesses

Growing up, next to Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys was one of the shows that I would watch with my family when it was on. The highly popular syndicated TV show that aired from 1995-1999 starring Kevin Sorbo even produced a spinoff Xena: The Warrior Princess that starred Lucy Lawless and aired from 1995-2001. Not only was Xena was the first strong female character I remember watching, but both shows were just fun to watch and I always wanted to know what was going to happen in the fantasy land version of Greece each week. Oh to be a BMAF and fight with swords and bows and arrows.
